These two classes under normal circumstances would not work together, the fact that the poet invites these two social classes in war shows that this was a mass uprising that caused all the classes to work together as opposed to the efforts of a few lone individuals.


The last line of the poem clearly evokes a detailed image of the rebellion. The graves evoke images of death, destruction and failure. The poet is projecting multiple messages. He emphasizes the unity that results from the rebellion (the joining of the priest and the tramp) but also the tragedy in loss of the life that is involved. Even though the rebellion ended in defeat, because the rebellion was of noble purpose, the croppies did not die in vain. The novel, “the Outsiders,” by S.E. Hinton is about adolescent rebellion and youth gangs in the150s. The Outsiders is about three brothers who must try to stick together in a rough neighbourhood.
